Night Star Ⅱ / Daisaku Shoji

At OFMEX 2009, Daisaku Shoji presented the NightStar, a flashlight that doesn’t need batteries. The NightStar is an LED light that can work without batteries, using Faraday’s Law. If shaken for 40 seconds, it can shine for 20 minutes. A magnet moves back and forth to generate a current, which is efficiently converted to light by the LED. The light is also focused and reflected efficiently, using a concave mirror and convex lens. The NightStar is also very durable. It doesn’t break even if dropped from a height of 120 cm. The NightStar is available from Daisaku Shoji’s online shop, for 5,600 yen excluding tax.
