Sony Computer Entertainment / Vision Library for PlayStation Eye

At CEDEC 2009, Sony Computer Entertainment presented a face recognition library using PlayStation Eye. This technology can detect faces and parts of faces by analyzing faces photographed with the PlayStation Eye. It can also track the position of faces. In the CEDEC demo, as an example of how this technology can be used, model data prepared in advance was superimposed on people’s faces to create a kind of augmented reality. This technology can also recognize individual faces, so it can display a different model for each person. Another way of using the technology could be to generate avatars automatically in virtual space.
