Sharp has developed the industry's brightest 3D touchscreen LCD, which can be switched between 2D and 3D modes.
This 3D touchscreen LCD is twice as bright as previous models from Sharp. It's 3.4 inches in size, with a resolution of 480 x 754, and a contrast ratio of 1,000:1.
This display can be used in both the horizontal and vertical positions, so it can be utilized in a variety of mobile devices.
This 3D LCD has a parallax barrier system, consisting of vertical slits, to control the direction of light. This enables 3D display by using the parallax between light reaching the left and right eyes.
"Advances in CG-Silicon technology" and "parallax barrier optimization" have enabled high brightness and low crosstalk, greatly improving display quality. In addition, despite the touchscreen, the thickness of the module is about the same as that of a 2D display.
Sharp is also developing a 3D LCD without a touchscreen. Mass production is scheduled to start with that type, in the first half of this year.
