LED driver
Rohm
Rohm has developed a new type of LED driver, BD6095GUL which is used to adjust the backlight and the panel brightness in electronic devices that use LEDs such as cell phones, PDA, portable navigational devices, and portable music players.
Users no longer need to worry about their eyes getting tired from watching a screen for many hours. The driver allows for optimal image display and backlight control system.
Since it adjusts the backlight accordingly with the display light, the backlight is no longer lighted for the dark images in the conventional driver system using only the luminescent sensors. This LED driver can drastically reduce the electric consumption of the white LED in real-time.
The luminescent sensor and IC interface embedded in the driver allows for an automatic brightness adjustment in 256 levels.
The BD6095GUL also allows four steps including the charge pump circuit pressure rising ratio of x1.33; thereby increasing the mode change of the pressure to a total of 4 levels over the three levels (x1, x1.5, x2) conventionally.
As a result, the electricity consumption has been cut down to a third compared to the previous LED driver.
Beginning in October sample shipping will commence and in Februrary 2008, the company is going to commercialize around 500,000 LED drivers.
