Development of CellFeuille, a 3D tissue model

-
With support from NEDO, Osaka University’s Dr. Matsusaki has studied the adhesion of cells to the surfaces of single-layer cultures. He developed technology for forming a membrane of fibronectin and gelatin to control the cell adhesion, and create a 3D structure by repeatedly growing another layer of cells on top of the first one. The development of equipment for this project was commissioned from Cluster Technology Co., Ltd. and Sumitomo Bakelite Co., Ltd., which manufactures a stratified culture kit called CellFeuille. As many kind of cells can be used to form each layer, this convenience will be utilized to improve the CellFeuille kit. In the future, the kit could be used not only in regenerative medicine, but also for pharmaceutical testing on human tissue before doing animal experiments or clinical trials.
