Data communication using the human body as the medium

At CEATEC JAPAN 2009, Alps Electric presented electric field communication technology, which enables data communication using the human body as the medium. Using this technology, information can be exchanged, for example, just by shaking hands. As examples of how the system could be used, Alps Electric presented audio guidance for each floor of a department store, and real-time pulse monitoring. In each case, the data is transmitted via the human body, without cables. Alps Electric is thinking of using this technology for personal ID in mobile phones, home security, and cars.
