At CEATEC JAPAN 2009, Hitachi Ltd. exhibited a Gesture Remote Control, which is expected to be used for future TVs and digital signage.
This system enables TVs to be operated by hand movement, without holding a remote control. It utilizes technology for recognizing the human body in three dimensions with a 3D camera. Hitachi expects that Gesture Remote Control will also be used for other appliances, such as lighting and air-con.
Hitachi also thinks this system could be used for digital signage in places such as museums.
