At Eco Products 2009, Sanyo Electric presented the Eneloop Bike CY-SPK227, an electric hybrid bicycle with a carbon frame.
Previously, electric hybrid bicycles have had steel or aluminum frames. Among commercial electrically assisted bicycles, the CY-SPK227 is the first in the world with a carbon composite frame. This has enabled it to be designed with optimal rigidity and vibration absorption.
Carbon composite frames have recently been used in high-end racing bikes, as they efficiently convert human power to propulsive force. By using a carbon frame for an electric hybrid bike, Sanyo has met the need for a really sporty bike with the CY-SPK227.
The CY-SPK227 was released on October 1, 2009, on a built-to-order basis, priced at 627,900 yen including tax.
