Marine Radar BR-3200 and ECDIS EC-8000/8500

-
At SEA JAPAN 2010, Tokyo Keiki exhibited the BR-3200 Series, its latest marine radar for large ships, and the ECDIS EC-8000/8500 navigation information system.

The Marine Radar BR-3200 enables ships to not only determine their own position, but also instantly analyze the positions of other ships and targets such as dangerous obstacles. This system includes advanced technologies, such as ARPA capability for automatic tracking of up to 100 targets.

"This system differs substantially from a conventional radar in its target processing capability, which has been greatly improved. Targets can be tracked on the radar display, and their behavior, course, and speed can be predicted from their movements. This capability is called ARPA. A major feature is that it can track quite a lot more targets than conventional systems."

This system also includes AIS, for high-performance identification of data such as the ID codes, names, positions, headings, speeds, and destinations for multiple vessels. Data for up to 300 vessels can be displayed on electronic charts.

The system is available in two-unit and three-unit configurations. Operation is simple, using the 23.1-inch, high-resolution, color LCD. Detection efficiency for small targets in bad weather has also been substantially improved, through the latest technology for digital signal processing.

These capabilities enable large ships to navigate safely in poor visibility or at night.

On the other hand, the ECDIS EC-8000 and 8500 can show features such as planning mode, monitoring mode, and chart correction mode on screen. These ECDIS systems support various kinds of input and output.

By using an ECDIS system together with marine radar, GPS data such as the ship's position and monitored courses, and the information needed for autopiloting, can be displayed on electronic charts.
