At Wireless Technology Park 2010, NTT Docomo presented a prototype of its Multiband Power Amplifier.Power amplifiers are electronic circuits that boost signals to the output power needed for communication. This prototype is used during communication from a mobile phone. Currently, multiple single-band power amplifiers must be used to support multiple frequency bands with a single mobile phone. The number of amplifiers is expected to increase from now on, as LTE international roaming will support more frequency bands. If this device becomes practical, there'll be no need to use multiple power amplifiers. This will make it possible to support virtually all mobile services used in Japan and other countries, including LTE, W-CDMA, and GSM, without increasing the size of mobile phones.
