At the 3D & Virtual Reality Expo, JVC presented a 4K camera and 4K projector, which can output and display video with four times higher definition than Full Hi-Vision.
"The display has super-high resolution, and the camera's main feature is 60P output. Conventional systems have a speed of 24P or 30P, but this system is 60P. Of course, the projector also supports 60P, but its main feature is a contrast ratio of 10,000:1. So this projector has superior performance at showing dark objects as dark and bright objects as bright."
The 4K video camera system, KY-F4000, consists of a camera and signal processing unit. The camera head can be made compact and lightweight by removing the signal processing unit. Also, high-speed data transmission, using JVC's unique format, enables the signal processing unit to be installed up to 100 m away from the camera.
The 4K projector, DLA-SH7NL, uses two 330 W, ultra-high-voltage mercury lamps to achieve a high brightness of 5,000 lumens. It has four DVI jacks to support multi-screen display, enabling Full Hi-Vision pictures to be shown on four screens simultaneously.
"Firstly, let me talk about the camera, which is available on a make-to-order basis. Delivery takes about three months, and the standard price is less than 20 million yen. Cameras with these advanced specifications are still used mainly by research institutes. But we expect that from now on, they'll also be used for things like videoconferencing and wide-area surveillance. The projector can be used for high-resolution video display in public facilities, such as galleries and museums. It's available in two models, and the one on show today will be priced around 16 million yen."
