At the International Stationery and Office Products Fair, Nichiban exhibited the Chokusenbi tape cutter, which leaves straight edges on cut tape.
A version for large rolls of tape was released in January and it proved to be very popular, with people saying that they also wanted a version for small rolls. So, on July 21, Nichiban released this version.
"In some cases, tape cut with zigzag edges looks unattractive, so straight edges are better. In such cases, customers use scissors to cut the tape straight. For example, people prefer straight edges when wrapping gifts in stores, or sealing envelopes. So we expect this cutter will be used for things like that."
The newly designed blade in this cutter, leaves a straight edge on the tape. The absence of zigzags also means that its harder for the dust to stick to the cut edge, so it stays clean.
Another feature of this cutter is that less strength is needed to use it, and the shape of the blade reduces the chance of accidents.
When tape with zigzag edges is peeled off objects, it sometimes starts to tear making it hard to remove, but when tape has straight edges, it doesn't tear as easily.
The Chokusenbi is available in two colors, black and white and it costs 1,890 yen including tax.
